Skunk Ape Sightings in the Green Swamp
Every culture across the world, no matter how isolated they have been from other cultures, no matter where they are on the globe, has a legend of some sort of Sasquatch. It doesn’t matter what people think. If it is out there, it is out there. Can we all be wrong? Skunk Ape sightings date back hundreds of years, including during the Seminole Wars. During the Seminole Wars, people supposedly ran into Skunk Apes in their battles near the Miami River and Big Cypress. The same goes for the Green Swamp. Reports of the skunk ape were particularly common in the 1960s and 1970s. Just keep in mind, history is full of examples of previously unclassified species going mainstream. The mountain gorilla, first reported by an explorer in 1860, was not officially recognized until 1902.
Audio responses from wood knocking and also some sounds that many Paranormal Investigators and Professional Bigfoot Hunting Teams believe, could be the Skunk Ape. They have also found what appear to be nests of some kind, made by a large animal in Pasco County’s deep woods... bears can also be seen rarely inside of Pasco County. How the Skunk Ape interacts with local wildlife is unknown.
Reported sightings of Skunk Apes have been arising for years, and in 2000 someone anonymously mailed photos to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Department purportedly of the creature taken in the Myakka River area. But Ward says those pictures and other sketches Marlowe showed her didn't match the animal she saw. Marlowe, for his part, suspects some claimed swamp ape sightings actually involved escaped or released orangutans.
Tracks were also observed there as well. At the current time the creature in the Green swamp is still active according to our client and correspondent there. Footprints of the Pasco County Skunk Ape have measured 17 inches in length and their depth implied a creature of tremendous weight, perhaps in excess of 600 pounds. There are other reported foot prints which claimed to be as large as 24 inches long and 8 inches wide. They are human like but display no arch, and the first three toes seem to be a similar length.
The Pasco county Skunk Ape, when mature, is from 6 to 9 feet in height, comes in four colors, ranging from reddish brown, brown, black and occasionally silverish gray. The top of the head has been described as rounded and crested, similar to the sagittal crest of the male gorilla, with a strong, unpleasant smell.
Investigators believe the silver ones to be old timers who have gone gray, much like human beings do in their senior years. Sightings of the silver bigfoot also described eyes that were milky blue, which could represent cataracts, which are also a result of old age in humans and other hominids. Most times his eyes are described as red at night, when reflecting light, and brown in the daytime. The silver Bigfoot reports in Pasco County, Florida, were said to have been of an aggressive nature, which is out of character for the Florida Bigfoot. Could this also indicate an aging rogue creature.
The silver creature was also reported to have chased two young men, out into the road and stood under a street light, which is also not the usual behavior of a creature who likes to stay out of the open and mostly stays in the cover of the woods, and underbrush. There are also reports in police investigations covering the disappearance of a man in the Green Swamp.

Florida Men on Florida Man Podcast Interviews and Missing Person Investigation
Just listened to the Florida Men on Florida Man Podcast. The podcast covers the story of man who went missing in the Green Swamp and stories from callers about a swamp monster. Crazy stories!!
https://open.spotify.com/episode/5S8ut0uwuHg3RlqnqUQsfu...
On the vehicle recovered of the missing man, claw marks were found and one of the tires had been punctured. A bloody pant leg was found on a tree nearby. The front end and scene showed no damage occurred on land, therefore, the vehicle was not driven into any trees and moreover... not driven into the water, but pushed or dragged.
Officials noted beast-like clues left behind. On the record it was noted that big foot steps were found, torn apart coolers, and again claw marks from some type of “beast.”
The Green Swamp covers hundreds of square miles, 50,000 acres, in an area where Lake, Polk, Sumter and Pasco counties join. The podcast interviews various locals and explores mysterious happenings in the swamp.
Hearing the stories of sounds of the swamp, or therefore lack of at times. One local calls the “beast” stories a bunch of crazy stories was very upset people wanted to explore the lore.
Another local shares his story under disguise, he talks about how five generations of his family has lived there. He was born, lived, and the Green Swamp has always provided for his family. He notes there’s plenty of evidence of a swamp monster if you know what to look for. He saw a creature running upright very fast moving across the swamp on the hunt near Jackson’s Bend.

Green Swamp: Possible Skunk Ape Sighting
Youtuber "Florida Sasquatch" found an old metal boat in the swamp a mile from a river. He was hearing audio and picked up....then he heard footsteps and saw something move up and stop. He really believe he briefly caught it on video.
In Pursuit of the Skunk Ape (1999) - Tampa Bay Times
This is a column by Terry Tomalin that appeared in print on Oct. 31, 1999.
SOMEWHERE IN THE GREEN SWAMP — The search continues — this time at the nearby Withlacoochee River — for the much-discussed, little-seen beast.
From the archives: In pursuit of the famous Swamp Ape (tampabay.com)
That December, four teenagers in the same area reported that a "smelly Bigfoot with glowing green eyes jumped on the hood of their car." Granted, that was the '60s, and the teenagers' testimony could be attributed to mind-altering drugs. But what about Chambers and Lewis?
That is why the Boy Scouts of America decided to call their yearly gathering "The Bigfoot Wilderness Survival Camporee." The scouts had planned to camp on the outskirts of the Green Swamp, where they would study wilderness survival.
